SEVERAL hundred cannabis plants have been discovered at a terraced house.
Police discovered around 300 plants growing at the house on the outskirts of Durham City after a tip-off from a member of the public.
Officers discovered what they described as "a substantial cannabis grow" with an estimated value of more than £130,000 taking place at the house in Clarence Street, Bowburn.
They also found a complex lighting, heating and irrigation system which had been installed through all three bedrooms and into the loft space.
The lone resident of the address, a 26-year-old Vietnamese man, was arrested at the scene.
He was subsequently interviewed and charged with producing cannabis and abstracting electricity.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe tomorrow morning (Sat) and is also being referred to immigration authorities.
PC Chris Milburn, of Durham Constabulary, said: "Thanks to the information received this was a very successful police operation.
"If any landlords have concerns about their property portfolio being used in this fashion we would urge them to contact the police so we can act,"
Anyone with suspicions about the growing on cannabis should contact police via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
