A POST Office has re-opened after being closed for nearly three weeks.

Durham Road post office in the Newton area of Stockton was shut on Thursday, May 2 but has now re-opened under a temporary sub-postmaster.

The Post Office has declined to explain why the office is closed although The Northern Echo understands an internal investigation has been held.

A spokeswoman said: “The Post Office apologises to customers for any inconvenience caused by the recent temporary closure of Durham Road Post Office. We are pleased to confirm that the branch has now reopened at the same site under a temporary Subpostmaster and is operating as normal.”

The Durham Road post office is based inside a shop which has remained open.
