A WOMAN who went to watch a man she had just met play football in the snow has celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary.
Agnes McCormick was at the cinema with friends when she saw future husband Vince.
The pair started talking and the next day Mrs McCormick, who grew up in Esh Winning, went to watch Mr McCormick from Tow Law play football in a snow storm.
The pair started courting often meeting each other at the pictures and treating each other to fish and chips on the way home, before tying the knot on May 23, 1953, both aged 20.
They moved to Tow Law where Mrs McCormick worked at a drapers and Mr McCormick at the steel works.
The couple, who had to wait a year to get married as their families said they were too young, had son Kevin in 1954 before three daughters Eileen in 1958, Trish in 1961 and Kathleen in 1970.
Mr McCormick continued to work in the steel works while Mrs McCormick worked hard raising the family.
The McCormicks, who now have six grandchildren, would often enjoy holidays with seaside resorts a particular favourite, and the couple could also indulge their own past times, which for Mrs McCormick included cooking, bingo and quiz shows while Mr McCormcik loved golf, pool and darts.
Their youngest daughter Kathleen said her parents were an inspiration to young lovers every where.
She said: “They've never had a wrong word - yet.”
