DETAILS have been announced of the make-up of the new cabinet at Durham County Council.

Council leader Simon Henig confirmed membership if his new Cabinet following Labour’s landslide victory at this month’s county council elections.

The announcement came at the council’s Annual General Meeting held n County Hall this morning.

Coun Alan Napier retains the post of Deputy Leader, with additional responsibility for finance and legal and democratic services.

The Cabinet includes three new faces: Coun Jane Brown, from Delves Lane, takes up the new post of Cabinet member for Corporate Services; Coun Ossie Johnson, from Lanchester, takes on the portfolio for Children and Young People’s Services while Coun Eddie Tomlinson, from Crook, is the new Cabinet member for Housing and Rural Issues.

Coun Henig said: "This is an experienced cabinet which includes representation from all six parliamentary constituencies in County Durham as well as previous experience on all but one of the previous eight district and county councils".

Retired school teacher Coun Pauline Charlton, who represents Evenwood, was elected as Chairman of the council.

She has chosen to support Butterwick Hospice and Treetops Children’s Ward at the University Hospital of North Durham as her charities for the coming year.
