A SCHOOL caretaker has appeared in court charged with posessing indecent images of children and voyeurism.
The 34-year-old has been suspended from his job at Le Cateau Primary School in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
David Taylor, of Cleveland Road, Catterick Garrison, appeared before Northallerton Magistrates yesterday (Monday, May 20).
He was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned until May 28.
The charges involve the recording of a private act and taking indecent photographs.
Parents of children at the school were yesterday (Monday, May 20) sent letters informing them of the arrest and reassuring them that none of the charges relate to any child at the school.
The letter, from headteacher Grahame Shepherd, said: "The charges to do not relate to any child at school or the children’s centre. Had there been any suggestion of any concerns relating to your child the police would have been in contact.
“Child protection remains our highest priority and all proper child protection procedures and safeguards are being followed.
“We wish to reassure parents and carers that the school and children’s centre will continue to ensure the safety and welfare of children.”
A spokesperson from North Yorkshire County Council said: “The council is working closely with North Yorkshire Police as part of a multi-agency investigation into matters of a child protection nature.
"As a result of this investigation a member of non-teaching staff in the Catterick area has been arrested, charged and suspended from employment.
"The current charges do not relate to any child at the school or the neighbouring children’s centre.
"Child protection remains the county council's highest priority and all proper child protection procedures and safeguards are being followed."
Agencies investigating the incident included police and safeguarding and disciplinary teams from the county council.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A 34-year-man from the Catterick area appeared at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court on Monday (May 20) charged with possession of indecent images and voyeurism."
