The family of a missing student have appealed for him to make contact, five days after he was last seen.

Jason Fyles, who is studying town planning at Newcastle University, was known to have been at an address on Helmsley Road, in Sandyford, in the city, at 2.45am last Thursday (May 16).

The 19-year-old undergraduate, from Southport on Merseyside, failed to return to his halls of residence at Bowsden Court, in Gosforth, Newcastle.

His parents, Ian and Caroline, brother Shaun and sister Kimberley have issued a family plea to Mr Fyles.

It reads: “Jason, please get in touch.

“We love you very much and all we want is to hear your voice and know that you’re safe.

“Please call us or call the police so that we know that you are all right.

“Whatever it is that is troubling you, whatever has happened to upset you, please give us a chance to help you sort it out.

“We would also ask Jason’s friends, or anyone who has seen him or has any information that could possibly help to find him, to get in touch with police.”

He was reported missing last Friday afternoon (May 17).

Described as of slim build, 5ft 9ins, he has a pale complexion and short ginger hair.

When last seen he was wearing a blue t-shirt, grey jumper, beige chino trousers and ankle length brown leather shoes.

Superintendent Andy McDyer, of Northumbria Police’s Newcastle command area, said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned about Jason’s welfare because of the length of time he has been missing.

“We’re continuing to carry out extensive inquiries to trace his whereabouts, but we also need the public’s help.”

Supt McDyer urged anyone who thinks they may have seen Mr Fyles since last Thursday to contact police.

Anyone with any information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191.
