A WEST End starlet from Darlington has capped her run in Billy Elliot by being part of the cast honoured with an Olivier Award.
Abbey Junior School pupil Macy Stasiak, 11, has spent almost two years playing the principal role of Debbie in Billy Elliot the Musical in London’s West End.
She performed her last show on Saturday (May 11) after deciding to bow out so she can return to Darlington to start secondary school with her friends in September.
Macy’s role in the show was recognised when the cast received an Olivier Audience Award for the first time and her mum Naomi said she was “incredibly proud” of her daughter’s achievements.
She said: “It was really exciting to hear about the Olivier.
“Macy didn’t get to go to the awards ceremony as the tickets are very limited - one of the Billy Elliot actors went along – but to be part of the cast to win the Audience Award is fantastic.
“I’m just so proud of the dedication she’s put in, she’s worked so hard for the show; it’s been a great opportunity for her and something she really, really wanted to do.”
During her time in London, Macy lived in a house with other junior members of the cast.
She made visits to her Brinkburn Avenue home around four times a month, but the majority of her time was spent on the West End stage where she performed in a total of 220 Billy Elliot shows.
