A NORTH-EAST holidaymaker had his trip abroad rescued by the kindness of an honest stranger.
Anthony Farrell, 23, of Darlington, lost his wallet containing 520 Euros - all his holiday money - the day he arrived in Mallorca.
He said he was “gutted” and had to rely on his friends to bail him out until three days into his holiday, the Spanish police contacted him to say that a British holidaymaker had handed his wallet in at Palma Airport.
Mr Farrell said: “I just couldn’t believe it, I was over the moon.
“You just don’t think things like that are going to happen, I just though that whoever found the wallet would have kept the money and I’d never see it again - it was £450 worth after all.
“I only know that it was a British holidaymaker who handed it in, so I’d like to say a big thank you to whoever it was.
“It’s nice to know that there are still some honest people out there.”
Mr Farrell, who works for the communications company EE in Darlington, took all his friends out as soon as the police reunited him with his money at the Mallorca Rocks Hotel.
He flew back home on Saturday and described his week-long trip as “amazing”.
