LOCAL history enthusiasts flocked to a major event dedicated to the hobby at the weekend.

County Hall in Durham was the venue for the biggest local and family history and heritage to be held in the county.

The event is staged every other year by the County Durham History and Heritage Forum, a group that aims to keep the past alive and to strengthen ties between local history groups.

The event was officially opened by regional TV presenter John Grundy and featured more than 100 displays and stands featuring local and family history societies as well as traders offering local history books, postcards and prints.

Durham County Records Office, which based at County Hall, opened its doors for a tour by event visitors.
