THREE people have been arrested after a man in his 40s suffered injuries that were initially believed to be life threatening.
Police were called to a report of a serious assault at Edward Terrace in New Kyo, Stanley, County Durham, at 4.30pm on Friday.
The man's injuries were initially treated as life threatening and he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, but he has since recovered significantly and has been discharged from hospital.
Women aged 20 and 22, and a man in his 40s have been arrested in connection with the incident. All those arrested are believed to be local.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident but are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
Detective Inspector Gavin Heckles, who is leading the investigation, said: “Police officers will be in and around the area of Edward Terrace speaking with residents; anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
"A number of officers are assisting with this investigation and all efforts will be made to bring those responsible to justice.”
