POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a two-car crash on the A689 between Wynyard and Sedgefield.
The emergency services were called to the accident, on the westbound carriageway, at 11.40am today.
The collision involved a blue Peugeot and a green Ford Fiesta. The driver of the Fiesta, a 25-year-old man from Hartlepool, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 47-year-old female passenger from the Peugeot and the male Peugeot driver were taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with cuts and bruises but were later released.
The A689 was closed in both directions until around 5pm.
