A TEENAGER apologised to a homeowner after throwing a concrete brick through a window without reason, a court heard.
Thomas John Stones went to the victim’s Bishop Auckland home to apologise and make amends days afterwards.
Prosecutor Phil Morley told Newton Aycliffe magistrates that the victim was letting his dog out on April 25 when he saw three youths drinking nearby, one of whom was Stones.
Shortly after going inside, he heard a smash and found a concrete brick had been thrown through a window next to his door causing £50 worth of damage.
Rory Todd, mitigating, said Stones had been drinking heavily following a family bereavement.
He added that the 18-year-old, of Waine Crescent, Bishop Auckland, could not remember the incident and had no idea why he did it.
Stones returned to apologise and offer to pay for the window, the court heard.
“It takes a lot of courage to go round and up to what you have done and take responsibility not knowing how that person will respond," he added.
Stones was fined £93 and ordered to pay £50 compensation plus a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
