POACHER’S PLAY: The Bonny Moor Hen, a play about starving lead miners who fought the Bishop of Durham’s men in 1818 after their friends were arrested for poaching much-needed food, will be performed at Killhope The North Of England Lead Mining in Weardale, County Durham, at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30. VINTAGE PICNIC: The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, County Durham, will hold a vintage picnic day on Sunday, June 30, featuring stalls selling a wide range of vintage clothes and home ware, artisan crafts, original art and local food from 10am to 5pm.
OPEN GARDEN: The Hedleys of High Hill in St John’s Chapel, County Durham, will open their garden to the public on Sunday, July 7, from 10am to 4pm. Visitors can see what the couple have achieved in an exposed garden at 1,200ft above sea level. Entry will cost £3 for adults and is free for children.
