Four Land Rover Defenders worth half a million pounds have been transformed to gear them up for the trip of a lifetime, a 3,000 mile rally across Europe.

The Defenders which have been made ready for the trip by Thirsk vehicle specialists Twisted are taking part in the Gumball rally.

They’ll stand alongside some of the most expensive supercars in the world for the week long trip through large areas of Eastern Europe from Copenhagan to Monaco.

Two of the Defenders are in the rally, one driven by Twisted managing director Charlie Fawcett and the other by US skateboard legend Tony Hawk.

The two other vehicles are supporting the event.

Charlie Fawcett said: "You wouldn't normally tackle 3,000 miles in a week in a Land Rover Defender, but the Gumball cars have extra space for passengers and all the luxury spec that we install.

"The event is pure hedonism for car nuts. It's not a race, it's a trip from A-to-B allowing owners to stretch the legs of their cars, and to raise funds for good causes."

The Defenders took three months each to build. The theme of the event is 'Gumball Army so many of the vehicles are in variations of camouflage. They set off on May 19 from Copenhagan and Charlie has no doubts they’ll stay the course, one has already done a 6,000 mile recce of the route.
