A REVAMPED park has been praised after being named in three major awards following its £8.9m overhaul.
The first award came when Middlesbrough’s Stewart Park was crowned winners in the Building Conservation category at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) North East 2013 Renaissance Awards in April.
As winners of the regional award, the park will automatically be entered into the national RICS Awards with a chance to gain national recognition for their work.
The park’s multi-million pound overhaul to transform the park by renovating its surrounding Victorian estate buildings and landscape areas and creation of a new visitor centre, took place last year with the aid of a £4.4m grant provided by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund (BIG).
The park has been awarded a further prize in the Green Apple Built Environment awards for its environmental endeavour.
The trophy and certificate will be presented at a special awards ceremony at the National Self-Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon in June.
Stewart Park was also highly commended in the Heritage category at this year’s Construction Excellence North East awards.
The park narrowly missed out on the winning place to the Monastic Cell and Medieval Tower on Coquet Island in Northumberland.
