ALMOST 100 people have now been arrested in connection with disorder which broke out after last month’s Newcastle versus Sunderland derby.
Police detained 29 people on the day of the game and today revealed they have since arrested a further 65 people on suspicion of taking part in the disorder which spilled through the city streets after the final whistle.
A total of 94 people have now been arrested in connection with the trouble which flared on April 14 following Sunderland’s 3-0 win at St James’ Park.
All of those arrested are subject to bail conditions preventing them from attending Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and England matches.
This morning, Northumbria Police released a further set of CCTV images of eight more people they want to trace.
Chief Superintendent Gary Calvert, Newcastle Area Command, said: "We continue to receive a lot of information from the public and have so far identified a significant number of people from the dozens of images we have released to the public.
"The arrest total is now at 94 and it is still very much an active investigation. Information continues to be processed and we will be making more arrests.
"I'd continue to urge those in the images not to leave the onus on the public to get in touch with us, if they see themselves they should take responsibility and come forward so we can speak to them.
"This is a fast moving enquiry and I'd like to reassure people who have been in touch with us that any information given to us is vital and everything we have received is being followed up at the earliest opportunity."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
