A BUS service linking Darlington with the Yorkshire Dales has been revamped to help military families in Europe's biggest Army base visit the countryside.

The Northern Dalesman service will now travel via Catterick Garrison on Sundays and Bank Holidays, as well as Darlington, Richmond, Reeth, Hawes and Ingleton.

The bus, operated by Arriva North East, runs every Sunday and Bank Holiday until October 20 from Faverdale North at 9.30am, Darlington Tubwell Row at 9.40am, Catterick Garrison at 10.11am and Richmond Market Place at 10.25am.

It travels along Swaledale via Reeth and Muker, then over the Buttertubs Pass to Hawes, then onward across the moors past Ribblehead Viaduct to Ingleton.

An afternoon bus from Richmond to Reeth at 12.45 is operated by Battersby Silver Grey.

Return buses return run from Ingleton at 4.40pm, Hawes at 5.30pm and Reeth at 3.25pm and 6.15pm.

The Northern Dalesman service is managed by  the Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit company owned by the Yorkshire Dales Society, which is dedicated to providing sustainable access for everyone to the Yorkshire Dales.

Funding has been provided by Richmondshire District Council's New Homes Fund, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Yorkshire Dales Society and the Friends of DalesBus.

A range of tickets is available, with a day return fare costing no more than £9.50, and concessionary passes are valid.

An All Dales Rover ticket, priced at £10 from the driver, allows unlimited travel on the Sunday and Bank Holiday DalesBus network for one adult and up to two children.

One way £1 fares for young people aged up to 19 (with identification) are also available on the Northern Dalesman bus.
