THREE councillors have issued a thank you to those who voted in their ward.

Labour trio Brian Stephens, Henry Nicholson and Patricia Pembleton secured the three seats on Durham County Council representing Shildon and Dene Valley.

The three councillors have now issued a statement to those living in their ward.

The statement said: “We would like to sincerely thank the electorate of Shildon and Dene Valley who voted in the recent Durham County Council elections.

“Your support was very much appreciated.”

The election was held on Thursday, May 2, with the result announced the next day at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.

Councillor Stephens secured 1,443 votes, Councillor Nicholson received 1,294 and Councillor Pembleton 1,104.

Almost 28 per cent of the 10,303 registered voters in the Shildon and Dene Valley area turned out to vote.
