POLICE are still at the scene of a serious road accident near Middleham in the Yorkshire Dales.
The crash was reported at 10.40am today and involved two vehicles, a light blue Ford Transit van and a burgundy coloured Citroen Berlingo van which collided on the A6108 near to the bridge over the River Ure.
The drivers of both vehicles were airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The driver of the Transit has since been discharged, however, the driver of the Citroen, a local man, remains in hospital with serious injuries.
The road is currently closed with a diversion in place. The road is expected to remain closed for the next two hours while collision investigators examine the scene and the vehicles are recovered.
Police are appealing to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision or witnessed the crash to contact them.
The Ford Transit was travelling towards Middleham and the Citroen was travelling towards Leyburn when the collision occurred.
Any witnesses are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information to the Force Control Room, quotingreference 0118 of May 13 2013.
