AN amateur dramatic company is putting on an Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical in north Durham this week.
Spotlight Community Theatre is performing 'Whistle Down The Wind' at the Empire Theatre in Consett from Wednesday to Saturday at 7pm.
Set in 1950’s Louisiana, it tells the story of Swallow, played by 18-year-old Holly McElhone, who discovers a mysterious man hiding out in her barn, 19-year-old Philip Richardson.
Swallow and the town’s other children vow to protect the man from the townspeople who are determined to catch a fugitive hiding it their midst.
Jayne Clennell, Spotlight chairman, said: “The entire cast has embraced the opportunity to rise to the challenges presented by the emotive script and superb musical score and it has been a delight to watch as they have brought the story to life.
“It is definitely a show worth seeing. It has it all - an amazing cast, a superb live orchestra, adorable children’s chorus and a live snake.”
The show is on at 7pm Wednesday-Thursday with a 2pm matinee performance on Saturday. Tickets cost £8/£7 concessions, which can be booked by calling 01207-218171.
