MOTORIST HURT: A driver had to be cut free from his vehicle following an accident in upper Teesdale. It happened on the B6277 Alston Road, close to the High Force Hotel, Forest-in-Teesdale, at about 1.45pm on Saturday. Firefighters from Barnard Castle, Middleton-in-Teesdale and Bishop Auckland freed the motorist, who suffered cuts to the head and a suspected spinal injury and required hospital treatment.

DRUG WARNING: Three men were stopped an searched by police on patrol in Cotherstone, near Barnard Castle, on Friday evening. Police say one was found to be in possession of cannabis and was issued with a warning.

ALCOHOL SEIZED: A clampdown on underage drinking in Barnard Castle has resulted in alcohol being seized from teenagers by police and Durham County Council street wardens on 18 occasions in the last month. A police spokesman said: “The team will continue to target underage drinkers. We would extend some advice to young people in the area – don't invest your cash in alcohol, we will take it off you.”
