A COUPLE were left devastated after waking to discover an intruder had been in their baby's bedroom while they all slept.

A money box containing £200 was among a haul of property taken from their Stockton home, Teesside Crown Court heard.

The raiders also took two televisions, a camera, a wedding certificate, charm bracelet, handbag, keys and the family car.

Jonathon Nicholson was later arrested and trainer prints from the scene linked him to last November's night-time break-in.

Accomplice Craig Turner had the stolen camera but claimed it was his - until pictures of the victim and her baby were found on it.

The pair - both high on drink and drugs at the time - were jailed after they admitted burglary and taking a vehicle without consent.

Turner - who was on bail for snatching cash from a till at a bookies days earlier - was said to have spotted their target.

Nicholson, 27, went inside and searched most of the rooms, but had little recollection of what he had done because he was "completely mashed" on a combination of drugs and alcohol, the court heard.

Graham Silvester, for 33-year-old Turner said: "November last year was a period when his drug misuse was at its zenith."

Nicholson, of Lambton Road, Stockton, was jailed for 28 months; while Turner, of Westbury Street in nearby Thornaby, got 27 months.

Duncan McReddie, mitigating for Nicholson, said he was "regretful, remorseful and sorry" now he is sober, and was keen to improve his life.

He added: "He was disinhibited and entirely without scruple by way of the amount of alcohol and chemicals ingested."

Mr Silvester said Turner - who also admitted burglary at the bookmakers in Redcar, east Cleveland, was penniless and desperate.
