VISITORS to a new-look part of Barnard Castle will have no trouble enjoying the area's nature – and it's all thanks to a group of school children.
The Year 3 and 4 pupils from Montalbo Primary School worked with Sarah Smith, the Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership's community officer, to develop the nature trail as part of ongoing work to reshape the town's Scar Top area.
Mrs Smith said the circular trail was aimed at visiting families and starts outside the famous castle.
From there it goes down to the river and along to the Sculpture Garden, through a Woodland Trust area and back up to the new play area and mini-golf course.
“We had a number of sessions with the children and help from volunteers at the Darlington and Teesdale Naturalist Field Club,” added Mrs Smith.
Among the sights to see are moss, berries, herbs, lichen, squirrels, spiders and butterfield, she said.
A leaflet has also been produced to help guide visitors around the trail.
