A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to hospital after coming off his machine in rural County Durham.
The 52-year-old, from Stockton, lost control of his machine on the B6276 between Brough in Cumbria and Middleton-in-Teesdale.
It happened not far from Selset reservoir.
He suffered back injuries and was initially treated by paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service, who then called in the air ambulance service, and the Pride of Cumbria helicopter was scrambled from Penrith.
The victim was flown from the scene to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
He is in a stable condition and his injuries are described as non-life threatening.
