A MAN found injured in the street at the weekend was not involved in a hit-and-run, police have confirmed.
The 55-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after being found with head injuries in John Street North, in Meadowfield, Durham City on Sunday afternoon.
Police initially believed the victim, from Brandon, had been the victim of a hit-and-run accident and issued an appeal for a 4x4 vehicle seen in the area at the time.
However, enquiries have now confirmed that the man was injured in a fall and no-one else was involved in the incident.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: " It is now believed that the 55-year-old man from Brandon, who was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, suffered a head injury after falling in the street.
"He remains in a stable condition in hospital".
