A 73-year-old man has been arrested in connection with historic child abuse in North Yorkshire, police said tonight (Monday, May 6).

It follows information uncovered by officers from the Metropolitan Police working on Operation Yewtree - the national police inquiry sparked by allegations of abuse against Jimmy Savile.

The man was arrested in Kingston Upon Thames on Friday, April 26, in connection with an historic child abuse investigation in Harrogate.

Following questioning, he was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The complaint relates to an incident that occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was a young boy and is part of a separate investigation by the North Yorkshire force.
