THE body of a woman has today, Monday, May 6, been discovered in the River Tees.
Cleveland Police said the body was discovered over lunchtime and firefighters helped recover the body.
The exact location of the find is not being disclosed by police but it is understood to be in the Stockton area.
A post-mortem examination is due to be held to formally identify the woman.
A spokeswoman for police said: “In relation to the body of a woman which was recovered from the River Tees at lunchtime today, police are not treating her death as suspicious.
"We are still awaiting formal identification to be carried out.”
She said no further details were available at this stage.
