CHRISTIANS have carried out a Good Friday pilgrimage as a reminder of the true meaning of Easter.
A group of almost twenty church-goers made the three mile trek from St John's Vicarage in Snods Edge, Shotley Bridge, County Durham, to St Andrew's in Kiln Pit Hill, Northumberland.
One member of the congregation carried an eight foot cross as they walked across the snowy countryside as they participated in the Procession of Witness ceremony.
Reverend David Wood of St John's performed readings and hymns were sung as they made the passage between the two churches to celebrate Easter.
Rev Wood said: "It was very cold and the snow was quite deep in places, but once we got out there the sun was shining brightly.
"The purpose of the ceremony is to remind people of the real message of Easter and the sacrifices Jesus made."
A dawn Easter ceremony will take place at St Andrew's Church at 6.30am on Easter Sunday.
An Easter Service will take place at 10.30am at St John's at Snod Hill on the same morning.
