CHILDREN and parents were given the chance to try out some unusual ways of getting active at a fun event in a North East town.

Team Local Motion, an initiative by Darlington Borough Council, took over Darlington’s Market Square today (Friday, March 29) with a series of activities including Nordic walking, Tri-golf and street dancing.

The Mega Friday Festival is part of a long-running council project to encourage children around the town to get active every Friday.

Councillor Andy Scott, the council’s cabinet member for health said: "With childhood obesity coming under increasing scrutiny it is essential that we begin to change habits from an early age.

“We all need to take responsibility for our own health and find some form of exercise that fits into our lifestyles.

"The MEGA Friday Festival is a great event where families can try out something new and find a fun way of staying healthy together.”
