FOOTBALL legends who were part of their club’s finest hour helped bring Easter cheer to sick youngsters.
Bobbie Kerr and Micky Horswill, members of the Second Division Sunderland team that made history in 1973 by beating top flight Leeds United to lift the FA Cup, delivered chocolate eggs to the children’s ward at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
The eggs were collected by the children’s charity Hope 4 Kidz and were donated by the public and local companies. Many were donated through a local radio appeal Hope 4 Kidz has so far distributed eggs and gifts to 1, 250 children with special needs and children experiencing extreme circumstances.
Last year Hope 4 Kidz gave eggs and gifts to 1, 229 children at Easter.
Viv Watts, of Hope 4 Kidz, said: “The Easter Appeal is so important to the children who may not receive any cheer at Easter. The Easter gifts allow children to escape their circumstances.
“It’s fabulous that the 1973 SAFC legends Bobbie Kerr and Micky Horswill take time out of their busy schedules to help distribute the Easter Eggs at Sunderland Royal Hospital.”
