POLICE have recovered a suspected stolen safe and are keen to trace its owner.
A police spokesman said the large Chubb safe was recovered by police beneath the A19 flyover close to the River Wear, near Sunderland, yesterday (Wednesday, March 27).
Anyone who has had a safe stolen and believes it could belong to them has been urged to contact the police.
Detective Sergeant Steve Wallace said: "This is a very distinctive safe due to its size.
"We believe the safe may have been stolen and if we can trace the owner, this will ease any financial loss to the victim."
Anyone who thinks the safe may belong to them should contact police on Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191.
