SOME of the country’s best racehorse trainers will open their doors tomorrow (Friday, March 29) to give members of the public an insight into the industry.

The annual Middleham Stables Open Day on Good Friday started in 1993 and now attracts thousands of visitors from all over the region, providing a behind-the-scenes look at some of the champions of horse racing.

The Yorkshire Dales town holds 14 stables owned by top racehorse trainers.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Top Cross at 9.15am, with guest of honour 2012 Grand National winner Neptune Collonges on show at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Stables around the central area of town are open from 9.30am until 1pm and the outlying stables from 9.30am until 2.30pm. Other attractions include Leyburn Band, a craft fair and trade stands.

Horse and riding enthusiasts will have the chance to speak to leading trainers and jockeys, and meet some of the hundreds of racehorses.

Tickets are £7, with accompanied children under-12 admitted free.

They can be purchased either on the day or in advance from the Key Centre. Free parking is available with a free bus service between Tennants', Middleham, the Low Moor and outlying stables.
