PUPILS at Colburn Community Primary School in North Yorkshire have proved they are streets ahead after naming six new roads on Taylor Wimpey’s Woodside Chase development in the town.

More than 70 entries were submitted to Taylor Wimpey, which ran the competition in partnership with Broadacres Housing Association.

The names Maple Avenue, Rosebud Way, Tulip Avenue, Beechwood Grove, Bluebell Walk and Woodland Avenue have now been formally approved by Richmondshire District Council, and the children whose suggestions were used have each received £20.

“From the very beginning, we were keen to involve the children from Colburn Primary,” said Beverley Russell, sales manager for Taylor Wimpey. “The new development is known as Woodside Chase, due to its proximity to stunning woodland and picturesque rural setting. We are delighted that the names chosen by the children reflect this as it really adds to the character of the development.”

Fiona Coleman, development manager at Broadacres Housing Association, added: “The children have done a fantastic job. We are looking forward to inviting them to the development once the homes are built and the street names are in place.”

“The children have really embraced this project so it will be nice for the winners, and the school in general, when we see the street names permanently in place,” added Colburn Community Primary School deputy headteacher Debbie Nicholas.

A total of 272 homes are being built over the next five years on the site, off Catterick Road in Colburn. There will be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties with prices starting at £114,950.

Taylor Wimpey’s governmentbacked FirstBuy scheme is available on the site to help eligible buyers to purchase a new home, and 80 of the homes will be allocated by Broadacres to local people in housing need. For further information about the development, call 01748 900708 or visit taylorwimpey.co.uk.
