TWO friends have lost more than three stone between them after embarking on a healthy living programme.

The New Life, New You programme is aimed at people aged between 40 and 65 in Middlesbrough, with a focus on those most at risk of developing diabetes.

Bill Rumins, 65, and 57-year-old Colin Kitson joined the scheme, run by Middlesbrough Council, last year. They took part in a personally-tailored programme, with encouragement along the way.

Already Mr Rumins has lost almost two stone and five inches from his waist, and Mr Kitson has lost one stone, ten pounds and four inches from his waist.

Mr Rumins said: “We wanted to be healthier to prevent any lifestyle conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. The programme encouraged us to improve our lives through increased physical activity and healthier eating. The difference is amazing and we both feel we have tonnes more energy now.”

The pair take part in activities including fitness classes and gym sessions at Active Middlesbrough leisure centres, and walks around the Tees Barrage, Albert Park, Redcar and Preston Park.

Anyone wanting to take part in the New Life, New You programme must be between 40 and 65, have a Middlesbrough Council postal address, and be concerned about their weight and health.
