A 55-year-old man staying at the Travelodge Hotel in Forster Street, Newcastle, had part of his ear bitten off in the early hours of this morning. (Sunday, March 24) Police were called at 4.50am and the injured man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he has been treated for his injury.

Three men aged 22, 31 and 32 have been arrested in connection with this assault which has been described as an unprovoked attack.

MAN SHOT: Police received a call at just before 5.45am this morning (Sunday, March 24) to Second Row, Linton, near Morpeth, after a man had been shot in the leg. Officers attended and the 23-year-old man, who was treated at the scene by paramedics for pellet wounds to his leg, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle. It is believed that the people involved in this incident are known to each other. Officers are actively patrolling the area and have cordoned off the street where it happened while evidence is gathered.
