RC Easter Services

Catholic Church services over Easter include Maundy Thursday Mass at 7pm in St Josephs RC Church, Tow Law. At Crook St. Cuthberts Church there is a Watching before the Altar of Repose at 9.15pm on Maundy Thursday followed by Night Prayer at 10.45pm. On Good Friday there are Liturgy Masses with The Solemn Passion of the Lord at 3pm in St Cuthberts Church Crook, St Joseph Church Tow Law, and St Thomas Church Wolsingham. On Holy Saturday March 30 there is a Vigil Mass in St Thomas Wolsingham at 5.30pm and in St Cuthberts Crook at 7.30pm. On Easter Sunday there is a 10am Mass in St Josephs Church Tow Law Other Services St Andrews Dawson Street Methodist/UR Church have a Good Friday service at 10.30am followed by Open Air Witness at the Crook War Memorial at 12 noon. The Witness Choir perform a concert which will tell the story of Lazarus in St. Andrews Dawson Street Church at 6pm. Howden-Le-Wear Bridge Street Methodist Chapel have a simple Communion Service on Maundy Thursday at 7pm with the Rev Ray Anglesea, followed by a meal to remember the last meal Jesus ate with his friends. Anyone with connections to the Chapel is welcome, numbers for the meal to Frances Ann on 01388 762083 as soon as possible. On Maundy Thursday morning the village school hold a service at 10am. The Chapel have an Easter Sunday service at 10.30pm with the Rev Andrew, while Messy Church returns on Tuesday April 3 at 10am. Children aged 0-10 years must be accompanied by an Adult and will learn all about Easter.

Hunwick Services Easter Services at St Paul’s Hunwick include a Mass at 7pm on Maundy Thursday. On Good Friday there are Stations of the Cross at 10am and a Liturgy at 2pm. On Saturday March 30 there is an Easter Eve Mass at 8pm followed by Easter Sunday Mass at 9.30am with renewal of Baptismal vows.

Cricketers Meet: Wear Valley Cricket Development Group meet in the Joiners Arms, Hunwick, this Tuesday (March 26) at 7pm. Representatives from local cricket groups in the area are all welcome.

Isaac’s Tea Trail: At the next meeting of the Crook Local History Society this Tuesday at 7pm for a 7.30pm start in the RAFA Club, North Terrace, Crook, Roger Morris presents the life and times of Isaac Holden, Methodist lead miner and fundraiser who turned to selling tea after a slump in the lead trade
