Two women were taken to hospital following two road  accidents this afternoon - one in Billingham and one at Studley Park, near Ripon.

The first accident happened in Melose Avenue, Billingham, at about 12.20pm. Fire crews from Stockton and Coulby Newham attended and used cutting equipment to free a woman from the wreckage.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance but the extent of her injuries are not known. It is understood no other vehicle was involved.

Fire crews from Ripon helped paramedics following an accident involving a VW Sharan and a Toyota car near the deer enclosure at Studley Park, near Ripon, at 12.20pm. The accident was caused by the weather.

An elderly lady suffering from minor back injuries had to be helped from the Toyota onto a spinal board before she could be taken to hospital.
