ENGLAND women footballer Sue Smith helped launch a youth sport contest in the North-East today (Friday, March 22).
The Doncaster Belles forward was at the opening ceremony of County Durham’s Sainbury’s School Games, at Maiden Castle sports ground, near Durham City.
The event will see aspiring Olympians compete in sports including basketball, wheelchair basketball, netball and swimming.
There will be action at Maiden Castle, Freeman’s Quay and Spennymoor leisure centres and South Durham Gymnastics Centre.
More than 900 County Durham youngsters will take part.
The event is organised by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Sport England, the Youth Sport Trust and Durham County Council.
