A story in The Northern Echo about Hartlepool engineer, John Johnson, who has been hailed a local hero in China for his charity work, is to be preserved for posterity in a Chinese museum.

The story, which appeared in Monday’s edition, is to be included in the museum of the Daily Suzhou, the newspaper which published the original article.

SUSPECT RELEASED: A man arrested in connection with a bomb scare has been bailed by police pending further investigation. The 34-year-old was taken into custody yesterday (TUESDAY) after more than 300 workers had to be evacuated from the Virgin Media call centre in Stockton. He was arrested on suspicion of malicious communication following an anonymous call received by police that a dubious package may be located there.

MIMA RESIDENT: The first artist in residence at mima gallery of modern art in Middlesbrough has taken up her post through the 2013 Alexandra Reinhardt memorial Award. Elphida Hadzi-Vasileva will spend the 10-week tenure developing an education programme and creating a sculptural piece for mima’s garden incorporating sound.
