SIX men have been arrested in a police operation against football violence in Newcastle.

On Thursday (March 14) Northumbria force officers seized three men on suspicion of affray.

They are aged 43, 40, 43 and from Rowlands Gill, Lanchester and Tow Law.

On Friday( March 15) two further arrests on suspicion of affray were made by police, a Newcastle man aged 39 and a 40-year-old man from Washington.

All five have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A 25-year-old from Jarrow was arrested on March 3 on suspicion of affray and is also on bail.

The arrests are linked to disorder in Rafferty's bar, Pink Lane, Newcastle, following the match against Chelsea on February 2 that is believed to have involved Newcastle United and Scottish fans

Chief Superintendent Gary Calvert said: "There is no place for such behaviour amongst true football fans who want nothing more than to support their team free from violence and disorder."

“However, when any kind of violence does take place we will do everything possible to make sure those suspected of being involved are traced.

‘’ Police have also released CCTV images of four people they need to trace over the disorder at Raffertys.
