FORMER Sunderland AFC chairman Bob Murray is launching a scholarship for accountancy students.
The Consett-born businessman, who led the club to the Stadium of Light in 1997, is the recently-appointed chancellor of Leeds Metropolitan University.
He will donate £30,000 over six years, awarding five £1,000 scholarships a year to first year undergraduate students at the university from low income families in the North of England.
Sir Bob said: “I would like to demonstrate my belief in and commitment to the university by extending a helping hand to some students during my chancellorship. “
