NORTH-EAST housebuilder Yuill Homes is supporting eco-friendly pupils at Roseberry Primary School in Billingham after making a donation to its Solar Schools Project for putting clean energy back into its classrooms.

Experienced at delivering sustainable developments, Yuill Homes is helping pupils to reach their target of raising 10,000 by the end of June to install solar panels to the school roof and generate renewable energy.

One of just under 100 schools taking part in the project, Lynne Gribbin, development sales manager at Yuill Homes' nearby College Gardens development, visited the school on Marsh House Avenue to present pupils with a cheque for 100 towards the scheme.

She said: "Roseberry Primary School's solar project is such an innovative idea and it's great to see pupils showing a real passion for helping their school to become more energy efficient through a renewable source such as solar energy.

"At Yuill Homes, all of our homes are built with energy conservation in mind. It's widely accepted that the average new home is up to four times more energy efficient than an older property helping you to keep your energy bills as low as possible and save you money in the long run. We wish pupils at Roseberry Primary School all the best for raising the money they need to make their school more eco-friendly."

Having raised 4,000 so far thanks to the support of parents as well donations from other local businesses and organisations, Roseberry Primary School is appealing for further donations to help them reach their target.

Nicola Parker, a teacher at Roseberry Primary School, said: "The whole school community have really got onboard with the solar schools project and we've held lots of events so far to raise money with great support from the local community."
