More than 1,000 requests for interpreters to translate 42 different languages were received by Croydon Council this year and translators of Albanian, French, Portuguese, and Turkish are in demand.
Over 80 languages, are spoken in Croydon and to mark 2001 as the European Year of Languages, the work of 300 interpreters will be celebrated this Autumn.
