A DEMONSTRATION in the North-East over a coffee chain's tax avoidance passed smoothly today. (Sunday, December 9)
Around 25 people gathered outside Starbucks in Newcastle City Centre to stage a protest which passed without any significant incident or disruption.
Police said no-one was arrested, but extra officers were brought in to ensure there was minimal disruption to members of the public.
Superintendent Derek Scott, said: "Northumbria Police recognises the right to peaceful protest and will facilitate this.
"Our priority is always the safety of members of the public and those attending and ensuring there is minimum disruption.
"Those attending today were good-natured and well-behaved and the demonstration passed smoothly."
