A CHARITY is seeking help as it aims to deliver its one millionth shoebox of goodies to a needy family as part of Operation Christmas Child.

Samartian’s Purse has delivered 94 million shoebox to needy children in over 100 countries during the past 22-years.

This year the charity hopes to send its one millionth box and is calling on churches, school, workplaces, families and individuals to help.

The closing date for gift filled showboxes to be submitted to the charity is November 18.

Jack O'Kane, County Durham operations supervisor for Operation Christmas Child, said: “We distribute over one million gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children at Christmas time last year.

“The challenge for us now is to grow County Durham’s contribution to this global programme, so we’re asking everyone across the region to help us achieve that.”

Samaritan’s Purse also wants people to email photographs of them holding shoeboxes which they’ve packed.

These will be sued to form a giant mosaic on the charity’s Facebook page designed to look like a child overseas holding a shoebox.

Photos should be emailed to socialmedia@samaritans-purse.org.uk with the word mosaic in the email subject line. The mosaic will be created at www.zumyn.com.

Details on how to submit a shoebox can be found at www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk.
