A MAN killed in a collision on Wednesday morning has been named by Cleveland Police as Alan Brown.

The 65-year-old from the Billingham area died after being hit by a green Volvo 850 T5 near a bus stop on Stockton Road between Middlesbrough and Thornaby at about 10.40am.

Mr Brown had no immediate family, but has a number of cousins who live locally. He had recently retired, having worked in the Billingham area as a road sweeper for Stockton Borough Council for several years.

Police are still investigating the collision and would continue to appeal for witnesses who have not yet spoken to them to come forward.

A 37-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, remains on bail pending further enquiries.

A 55-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police was charged and will appear at Teesside Magistrates Court in due course.
