ELECTRICALS chain Comet is set to enter administration next week, according to reports.
The company, which employs more than 6,000 people, looks set to be the latest high profile casualty of the High Street slowdown.
Sources claim administrators will continue to run the business as a going concern while looking for a buyer.
But if no white knight can be found the group could be liquidated.
Comet started in Hull 79 years ago as a business recharging batteries for radio sets.
The business expanded during the boom in consumer electronics during the 1980s and when it rivalled Dixons for High Street supremacy.
Times have been tough in recent years with online sales eating into profits and the company changed hands for just £2m last year.
