AN investigation into the death of a man who was hit by a car is continuing today.

Cleveland Police are appealing for further witnesses to come forward following the accident which happened on Stockton Road between Middlesbrough and Thornaby, known locally as the Wilderness Road, at around 10.40am yesterday morning.

A green Volvo 850 T5 was travelling from the direction of Middlesbrough towards Thornaby when the collision occurred. The car ended up on its roof next to the railway lines.

A male pedestrian died at the scene.

A 37-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed pending further enquiries. A 55-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police has been charged and will appear at Teesside Magistrates Court in due course.

A male passenger from the car remains in Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital receiving treatment for a leg injury.
