A SCIENCE fair organised by Durham University is being held near one of the region’s best known landmarks.
Celebrate Science is being staged in a marquee on Palace Green, next to Durham Cathedral and features free hands on activities for families to enjoy during the half term holiday.
Experts will be on hand to answer questions on everything from lasers to the Lindisfarne Gospels for three days until the event closes on Thursday.
There are exciting live demonstrations and visitors can step inside a planetarium to see the stars.
Dr Pete Edwards, the university’s director of science outreach, said: “The aim is to get science out in the community and taking it out to people rather than them having to go looking for it.
“Hopefully, people will come along and see for themselves. It is not about science for academics but for younger kids and grown ups as well.”
Each evening there are public lectures on a range of science themed subjects to be held in the Pemberton Rooms.
They are free to attend, but places are limited, so tickets should be booked in advance from Gala Theatre by 0191-332-4041.
Celebrate Science runs from 10am to 4pm.
