X FACTOR star Amelia Lily will join the cast of Shrek the Musical for a one-off performance in support of Children in Need.

The Teessider, who reached the finals of the X Factor in 2011, will perform in the award-winning show as part of BBC Children in Need’s Pop Goes the Musical 2012.

The project gives celebrities the chance to perform a hit song with a top West End show.

Other stars involved in the project include Geri Halliwell, who will appear in Singin’ in the Rain and North Easterner Joe McElderry who will pop up in Thriller Live.

The celebrities will pop up in shows on select dates throughout October and November to help raise vital funds for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Ms Lily will appear in Shrek the Musical on Wednesday November 14. She said: “Shrek the Musical is loved by people of all ages. I am thrilled to be a part of it and I can’t wait to start rehearsals.”

The musical is based on the story and characters from the Oscar-winning film Shrek. It currently stars Dean Chisnall as Shrek, Richard Blackwood as Donkey and Carley Stenson as Princess Fiona.
